Movie choices for this weekend, 072223? Let’s see them all! All three movies are good choices, however, all three movies are quite different.
Mattel’s Barbie doll is featured in the 2023 film entitled Barbie. Barbie is a 2023 American whimsical comedy directed by Greta Gerwig and written by Gerwig and Noah Baumbach. The film stars Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, but enjoys an ensemble cast of screen favorites that includes America Ferrera, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Ariana Greenblatt, Issa Rae, Rhea Perlman, Helen Mirren, and Will Ferrell.
The well attended Barbie movie preview was populated with mostly excited females with the majority of young girls in the tiaras, white gogo boots and pink colored outfits. Many of these young girls took pictures in front the publicity booth set up at the theater for marketing purposes (similar to “The Mermaid: theater promotion campaign). They had such a great time and wanted to see the film again. The parents said they would prefer to see it on DVD or a streaming platform.
The plot involves a stereotypical Barbie suffering from an emotional breakdown who must leave Barbie world and entering the human world to find resolution. The integration of colorful set designs, frequently music cues and great comic timing of the entire cast is fun and can be described as “Glee” meets SNL. Nice. 3 of 5.

Oppenheimer is a 2023 biographical film written and directed by Christopher Nolan. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film Oppenheimer educates the movie viewer regarding the life and contributions of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist who was instrumental in the development of nuclear weapons as part of the Manhattan Project. Cillian Murphy stars Oppenheimer and is flawless in his portrayal of a historical fiqure who was truly conflicted with his job and the potential impact on his work on the world.
The impressive supporting cast includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, Tom Conti, and Kenneth Branagh.
Oppenheimer has a run time of three hours but the movie is majestic and deliberate in its execution of a subject matter that is of global concern regarding peace and war strategies. The run is justified as the Oppenheimer film takes extreme care to demonstrate the serious nature of the subject matter. It is emotionally intriguing and worth your time. The set design brilliantly depicts the 1940s time period and mores of a male dominated political society which is determined the fate of the world. The colorful visiual representation of a potential global dystopia is frighteningly heartfelt and transcends all social and cultural demographics. The sound design was perfected as it compels you to pay attention (for those who fell sleep). The well attended audience generally appeared to feel the film was too long but I felt it was necessary in order to reflect the seriousness of the subject matter. See it on a big screen.
Beautifully done. 4.5 of 5.

They Cloned Tyrone is a 2023 American is a science fiction film directed by Juel Taylor written by Taylor and Tony Rettenmaier. The film stars John Boyega, Teyonah Parris and Jamie Foxx who portray characters who discover a government cover up. As the title suggests, their community is being cloned. The film makes inferences of social and economical disparities within their community as they realized that they are being targeting with additional biological weaponry. The actors are experienced in comedy which gave the film a fun aura. Nice. 3 of 5.
