While Molly (Lily Gladstone) and Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio) do not share the majority of the screen time as a couple, their relationship is the nucleus of the film. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Lily Gladstone lead an ensemble cast that includes Jesse Plemons, Tantoo Cardinal, John Lithgow, and Brendan Fraser. Every actor brought their A game. This film is done so well. It has beautiful cinematography, lighting and set designs. The costumes look very authentic for the time period. The music by the late Robbie Robertson is absolutely heavenly as the big orchestral string arrangements are perfectly enhanced with blues and other genres that were popular in the time period. The high and low points of emotional that you will experience while watching the film are appropriately placed. You, the viewer, feel the joy and the sadness of the characters as their lives and heritage are stolen from them.
Killers of the Flower Moon is a highly entertaining film as there is some comic relief and colorful characters but it is also an important film. A film that fully explores the human condition.
While the run time is long (over 200 minutes), director Scorsese makes a powerful statement and commitment to the Osage county story. You feel the affection between the characters and you see the clear corruption and duplicitous nature of the villains. More importantly, you empathize with the Osage tribe who after attaining overwhelmingly wealth, still feel the need to be desired and assimilate with the white culture.
And this review will contain some spoilers, but I’m gonna say what I always say. This film is based on historical facts. If you know history, there are no spoilers within the film.
Killers of the Flower Moon is based on a book by David Grann. Killers of the Flower Moon is based on historical facts.
If you’re not aware of the story, there were 60 murders that impacted the ownership of great wealth and the population of the indigenous people of Osage County in Oklahoma. No one appeared to care or be interested in investigating the murders. Many of the law enforcement agencies we affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan and were deeply motivated by greed and jealousy.
The most egregious part of the story of the Killers of the Flower Moon is that many of the woman and families were victimized as their affection and wealth were stolen from them. They were not educated to the ways of big government, trusts and the ramifications of marriage as it relates to their assets.
